Narrow Walking Shoes For That Skinny Foot

People with narrow feet have their own set of fit problems and it can be a challenge to find narrow walking shoes. If you’re sick of having your shoes flopping around on your foot and never being able to tie them tight enough to prevent it, there is good news.

A lot of major manufacturers of shoes are addressing the problems of fitting the narrow foot. My mother and I wore the same size shoes, but my feet are normal width and hers were very narrow. She had a hard time finding shoes and often had to wear regular width shoes with insoles. She would be very happy to see walking shoes in narrow widths. Narrow feet are not limited to women. Some men have the same problem.

Fit is really important in shoes. You are unlikely to keep up a walking program when you have shoes that do not fit properly. They should be comfortable right out of the box. I can remember when people thought getting blisters was just a part of new shoes. This is not the case. When you have a well fitted shoe, you will not get blisters. Those who have narrow feet will no longer have to resort to wearing very thick socks to enhance the fit.

New Balance and Asics carry a couple of styles of walking shoes in narrow widths for men and women. Saucony and Ryka also have narrow walking shoes.

Did you know that the way you lace your shoes affects the fit? I didn’t and was surprised to see lacing tips to address many fit problems including narrow feet. If the shoe has two sets of eyelets, you can lace through the ones furthest from the tongue and bring the shoe together more snugly. If that is not enough, you can use the lace lock technique between the second and third eyelet to prevent slipping. Lace through the next eyelet on the same side to form a “bunny ear.” Do the same on the other side. Lace through the opposite bunny ear and continue lacing diagonally to form a lace lock. Are you as confused as I am? If so, most stores who sell athletic shoes have lacing charts or you can access one online.

Don’t suffer with ill fitting shoes any more. Check out a few different brands of narrow walking shoes and you’re sure to find one that will suit you perfectly.
